Sponsor(s): Federation of Jewish Agencies of Greater Philadelphia

Principal Investigator(s): William L. Yancey, Ira Goldstein

Study Dates: 1984

Sample: Adult Jewish Households in Greater Philadelphia

Sample Size: 1424

Sample Notes: The data were gathered from 1,424 individuals in households with one or more Jewish individuals via a telephone interview survey. It is estimated in the published report that there are about 252,364 Jews living in 101,485 Jewish households. The sampling universe included Jewish households located in Philadelphia, Montgomery, Delaware and Bucks counties. The sample was obtained in two stages. Stage 1 used random digit dialing; stage 2 used "supplementary stratified area samples targeted at identifiable neighborhood areas with varying concentrations of Jewish households."
Study Notes: The data gathered in stage 1 are weighted to compensate for differential sampling by the ratio of the number of households contacted to the number of households in each county, household size, and number of telephone lines. The data gathered in stage 2 are weighted to compensate for differential sampling by household size, number of telephone lines, the degree to which certain strata were oversampled so that the data gathered in this stage are comparable to the data collected in stage 1.
