Sponsor(s): UJA/Federation of Westport, Weston, Wilton, and Norwalk

Principal Investigator(s): Ira M. Sheskin

Study Dates: October, 2000 - December, 2000

Population Estimates:

An estimated 11,450 Jewish persons live in 5,000 Jewish households in the Westport - Weston - Wilton - Norwalk area of Connecticut.  In addition, another 2,150 non-Jewish persons reside in these households for a total of 13,600 people.

Sample:

Adult Jewish Households in Westport, Weston, Wilton, and Norwalk

Sample Size: 624

Sample Notes:

Data were gathered via telephone interviews from 624 individuals in households that contain one or more persons who were born or raised Jewish, or who currently consider themselves Jewish.

The sampling procedure used two different sampling frames: (1) random digit dialing (RDD) resulted in 202 completed interviews, and (2) sampling from households with Distinctive Jewish Names (DJN) in the area's telephone directory resulted in 422 interviews.

The DJN sample was weighted by Dr. Sheskin to resemble the RDD sample on age of head of household and type of marriage.
